THE MOST IMPORTANT EXPLORATIONS

We do not have so much water on Karst, because all sink underground. The only one river stream is a stream of river Reka and even it sinks in Škocjan cave. It appears again only in Italy in cave Labodnica as river Timavo. The underground stream is till today unknown and it makes a lot of conclusions, polemics, hopes.

Speleological group of Sežana also searches for the River. And this searching is going on for years.

THE EXPLORATIONS IN BREZNO V STRŠINKNI DOLINI
All began in the year 1997, after a period of hard rain. In that time we started searching respirators from underground. Beside already known Kanjaduce, we discovered many other. But the most interesting of all was a small hole in Čičer valley near the village Orlek. In the same year we digged ourself to the deepth of 2.5 meters.

In the year 1998 we continued digging with some help from machines but because of luck of interests and rocks falling down we soon stoped with work.

We started again with some work only in year 2000. In december we fortified the walls with some pine-wood and continued with digging. The acchieved depth was only 4 meters.

After that we worked in Čičer almost every sunday and by september the 2nd of next year we acchieved the depth of 19 meters. Until then we lifted with a help of a lift 130 kubic meters of material and found a small hole on the bottom which led into a 15 meters deep abyss.

In next weeks the rain went very hard and we noted a strong draught from the small hole on the bottom.

And then we stooped with the researches at the depth of 34 meters. Only on the 16 of oktober we digged out another two meters of narrow. On the other side we found another abyss with a vertical of 100 meters. On the bottom was another abyss, 30 meter deep. The complete depth of the cave is now 145 meters, but we are still looking for some passages.

We have found some draughts only in this year (2002),but we could not say for sure where it comes from. So we are still waiting for Reka to become higher what will cause the strenghtnes of draughts. And with help of them we may found new passages very soon...

12th August 2002: The draughts in Čičer (Brezno v Stršinkni dolini) have finally shown us three possible continuings of the cave. That was in the depth of 140m, 100m and 70m.

25th August 2002 was our lucky day. That day we continued with the researches in Brezno v Stršinkni dolini (Jama v Čičerju) in the depth of 140 meters and found an abyss at least 50 meters deep.

On 27th of August 2002 we have finally realised that the new abyss in Brezno v Stršinkni dolini (Jama v Čičerju) was not 50 but 90 meters deep.

Further calculations in Brezno v Stršinkni dolini (Jama v Čičarju) have shown us the real depth of our beauty. And it is no less than 228 meters deep. This is the depth where river Reka sometimes floods.

Saturday, 10.1.2004 was a very special day for speleological group of Sežana. At the depth of 340m we have found an underground stream which is almost for sure the underground river Reka, which sinks in Škocjan cave.

Only a month early the dream of speleologist became reality for the first time, when another underground stream was found in Jama 1 v Kanjaducah near Sežana. This stream flows at the depth of 310m.
